CAAP AFRIKA
Since the start Sport4Charity, has supported Caap Afrika, an organisation that shares the same aims of supporting the youth of Africa that are forced to live in poverty. Caap Afrika forms a lynchpin for charities and associations with the aim of enriching the lives of the young.
CAAP Africa, a Non-Governmental Organisation founded in Monaco in 2005, under the high patronage of HSH Albert II of Monaco. The organisation was initially formed to help a 10 year old Senegalese child, forced to remain in a wheelchair due to the lack of access to surgical care. Caap Africa provided the funds to provide a life-changing operation for the child, restoring his dignity and autonomy.
In Africa, similar cases are numerous whereas doctors are few and far between. In Niger for example; there are only three doctors specializing in orthopaedic surgery for 15 million inhabitants.
Caap Afrika’s mission is “to train doctors in Africa and to help ensure that one day in this country, there will be workers, doctors and medicines”. This aim would allow local communities to treat and to heal themselves, training the doctors and surgeons of tomorrow whilst treating people with needs today - without them having to travel overseas for treatment.
To this day Caap Afrika’s triumphs include:
- June 09 we have provided 25 Orthopaedic operations
- Free consultations have been provided for over 450 people
- The formation of 4 surgeons in Monaco;
- 2 evaluation missions in Niger, Burkina Faso, Mali, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Togo, Benin, Cameroon, Gabon.
- Participation in the Monaco Collectif Humanitaire project (which sees the union of about 15 NGO associations of the Principality) provided surgery for over 100 children with serious heart and orthopaedic diseases in Monaco.
For the first time EBay have joined forces with Caap Afrika to help African children. In fact, the Caap Afrika association are to organise a fundraiser on EBay, involving major figures of the sporting world.
